Do You Have an Effective Marketing System to Grow Your Business?
In this article, I'd like to share a few tips about marketing your business with a very powerful concept -- it's the concept of systems.
WHAT IS A SYSTEM?
We've all heard the word system, as in computer system, circulatory system, or solar system, but most people are not aware of the important role systems play in our lives and in the health and growth of our businesses.
A system is simply a 'series of steps designed to achieve a specific result.'
YOU USE SYSTEMS FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO
You may have a system for making your favorite cake recipe, or a system for paying your bills. If you have employees, you probably have a system for hiring new employees and a system for training them. Actually, you have a system for doing everything you do.
Chances are, you have a system for attracting new customers, and a system for selling more products to your current list of customers. But, are these systems as effective as they could be? Are they producing the level of results you want each month?
Exactly how are you currently attracting prospects to your business? What steps do you take each week or each month to attract these prospects?
NOT ALL SYSTEMS ARE EFFECTIVE
An effective system should produce predictable and consistent results for you. If it doesn't, there is something wrong with your system.
Before we moved our business to the Internet a few years ago, we used a number of offline marketing systems to attract customers to our business. Each one produced consistent results for us.
For instance, one of the marketing systems we used was a one-page prospect generating letter that we mailed to our target market each month. Every time we mailed that letter, we received on average a 3-4% response.
That means, if we mailed 1,000 letters, we received 30 - 40 responses. Our system was designed to ensure that the only people who responded to our letters, were people who had a genuine interest in the solution that we provided.
We then had another marketing system for setting up an appointment with those prospects. That system consistently resulted in 60% of our prospects agreeing to meet with us in person.
And finally, we had a third marketing system for converting our appointments into paying clients. That system consistently converted about 50-60% of our appointments into clients.
Each of those systems was made up of a series of separate steps. As long as we performed the steps the same way each time, we could expect about the same results each time.
YOUR SYSTEMS SHOULD PRODUCE PREDICTABLE RESULTS
Because of this predictability, we were able to project, fairly accurately, how many sales we would generate each month.
If our system produced 1 new client for each 100 letters mailed, then we knew that we would produce 2 new clients by mailing 200 letters, or 3 by mailing 300, etc.
Because of our effective and predictable systems, we could 'decide' how much income we wanted to generate each month.
This is the way all effective marketers grow their businesses. They each have learned very effective marketing systems that they apply consistently to produce their results, just like baking a cake. There's no reason why you can't do the same.
Here are the three basic marketing systems that are mandatory for growing your business:
1. A SYSTEM FOR ATTRACTING PROSPECTS
If you don't have an effective system for generating prospects, you need to get one.
2. A SYSTEM FOR CONVERTING PROSPECTS
If you don't have an effective system for converting your prospects into customers, you need to get one.
3. A SYSTEM FOR SELLING MORE TO YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS
If you don't have an effective system for selling more to your current customers, you need to get one.
You can't develop an effective marketing system by guessing at the steps. And you'll waste a lot of time and money trying to develop a system haphazardly. You don't stumble upon effective marketing systems -- you learn them.
The easiest way to develop your own marketing systems is to learn them from others who have already tested and proven the effectiveness of their marketing systems.
You want to learn a marketing system that is based on solid marketing principles. Human nature never changes, and all effective marketing systems are based on human nature. Improve your systems and your results will improve at the same time.

Dan Poynter's Self-Publishing Manual, 16th Edition: How to Write, Print and Sell Your Own Book (Self Publishing Manual)
Dan Poynter's Self-Publishing Manual, 16th Edition: How to Write, Print and Sell Your Own Book (Self Publishing Manual)
With this book, you will learn how to speed write your book; copyright it yourself; bypass publishers; set up your own book publishing company; promote your books with book reviews, book signings, feature articles and radio/TV interviews; get your book into bookstores, specialty stores, catalogs and on the Web; and make spin-offs of your book. Nearly every one wants to write a book. Most people have the ability, some have the drive, but few have the organization. Therefore, the greatest need is for a simple system, a road map. The basic plan in this book will not only provide you with direction, it will promote the needed drive and expose abilities you never thought existed. Writing a book is probably easier than you think! If you can voice an opinion and think logically, you can write a book. If you can say it, you can write it. Most people have to work for a living and therefore can spend only a few minutes of each day on their book. Consequently, they can't keep the whole manuscript in their head. They become overwhelmed and confused, and find it easy to quit the project. The solution is to break up the manuscript into many small, easy-to-attack chunks (and never start at page 1, where the hill looks steepest). Then concentrate on one section at a time and do a thorough job on each one. Dan was prompted to write this book because so many authors and publishers wanted to know his secret to selling so many books. Now he is revealing to you the secrets of writing, producing and promoting your book-the good life of self-publishing.
Customer Review: Not Helpful
This book is called a "manual" for self-publishing.
It isn't.
Lots of pages, but it never tells you how to take your manuscript and publish it yourself, from start to finish.
I started with this book, because of its title, its hype, and the reviews. But the books that actually HELPED me figure out HOW to self publish, were ones that I had to find elsewhere. The few actually useful books on this subject are not as slick and glossy or well promoted as Poynter's, but they have real step-by-step INFORMATION that will help you on your way.
I'd "pass" on this one.
Customer Review: Seasoned Advice That Rings With Authenticity and Wisdom
For almost 40 years, Dan Poynter has been a successful publisher. Also he's been active in the publishing community and knows the straight story about results from authors who have followed the traditional publishing path. This book provides step-by-step counsel to produce an excellent self-published title. The basis of any book--whether self-published or through the traditional system--is an excellent and targeted manuscript.
With careful attention to detail, Poynter provides every reader the necessary steps to successfully produce a quality book but this book guides readers to even more about promotion, distribution, advertising and fulfillment. He reveals a key secret on page 23-24: "Another success secret is to cut out the intermediaries who are the commercial publishers and produce and sell the book yourself. You can take the author's royalty and the publisher's profit. You get all the rewards because you are both the author and the publisher." What isn't said in this section is that you are also taking the risk of possible failure. Successful self-publishing will involve using every aspect of this well-crafted book and following the additional resources in the book.
Poynter is to be commended for producing such a thorough reference book loaded with such resources that writers will refer to it over and over.

Customer Review: Lane Brody is simply amazing!!!
This c.d. is simply amazing. She has an amazing voice and lets face it she can belt out a tune. My favorite songs on here are "All the unsung hero's" and "faster than the speed of love". She is an incredible artist. Well worth the money for this incredible cd. Waiting for her next album.
Customer Review: New recordings show Lane is as good as ever
Lane Brody was (briefly) signed to a major label in the early eighties, but didn't establish herself as a country singer. As I remember it, there was one album of solo recordings, plus a duet with Johnny Lee which appeared on one of his albums. It is that duet (The yellow rose, actually a sensational cover of Yellow rose of Texas) which is what she is remembered for - quite rightly, as their rocking version is far superior to any of the traditional versions of the song.
This album includes new recordings of songs from back then, including Over you (Lane's best solo effort of the time) and The yellow rose, for which Lane got Johnny Lee back in the studio. It is many years since I heard the original, but the new version sounds very similar.
On her own, Lane seems to enjoy the slower songs, which include a great cover of Jim Croce's classic I'll have to say I love you in a song, plus many excellent songs that I don't recognise, some of which were written by Lane.
In case you're alarmed by re-recordings, this project was properly managed and financed by Lane and her husband and released on a small label, so this is not just any re-hash - indeed, I believe Lane sings even better than she did twenty years ago. Music this good deserves to be heard.
